One of the most important conditions for long-lasting and flawless repair is that the surface to be worked on is in a repairable condition. For example, applying paint directly to a surface with old paint residues, cracks, or voids leads to unsatisfactory results, aesthetic degradation, premature damage to the repair, and consequently, additional costs. Therefore, before starting repairs, the condition of the surface must be examined, and an appropriate primer or putty should be applied to make it repairable. Our stores offer a variety of paint primers depending on their intended use.
For example: "FAB TRANSITION PRIMER" is designed for internal and external surfaces, mainly for transitioning from synthetic-based paint to water-based paint, covering and preparing the surface for the application of water-based (emulsion) paint. "FAB SILANE PRIMER" is used before applying paints to mineral-based, highly absorbent surfaces that are being painted for the first time, or to previously painted surfaces.
What is the purpose of applying primer?
The purposes of using primers are as follows:
* To strengthen the surface;
* To ensure good adhesion to the surface;
* To create a base for the product to be applied, ensuring the longevity of the repair;
* To reduce costs by decreasing the absorbency of the surface;
* To protect the surface (e.g., anti-corrosion primers, etc.)
What is putty and what is it used for?
Putty is a group of products applied with a spatula to repair cracks, voids, and irregularities on the surface. There are different types depending on where it will be used. In "OMID" stores, various "FAB" brand putty products are available for sale. For example, "FAB ACRYLIC PUTTY" is used for filling voids created by cleaning blistered exterior surfaces that were previously painted and for eliminating existing defects, while "FAB POLYESTER PUTTY" is used for filling voids in iron, aluminum, galvanized steel, and previously painted metal surfaces, and "FAB WOOD REPAIR PUTTY" is intended for repairing plank-plywood and other wooden materials.
It is important to remember that putty is used to level the surface. As it is the weakest product among paint auxiliary materials, applying it in excessive amounts is not recommended.
Here are the points to consider when using putty:
* Thin putties should be applied in several thin layers to the surface.
* For surfaces requiring thick filling, ready-made filler putty types should be used.
* The chosen putty type should be appropriate for the environment where the surface to be painted is located.
