In modern times, gypsum plasters are preferred over cement plasters. This is because gypsum is easy to use, fire-resistant, refreshes room air, allows walls to breathe, does not retain moisture or bacteria in its base, has sound insulation properties, and is environmentally friendly. You can achieve all of these benefits by choosing the correct brand of gypsum.
The main materials and tools used for gypsum plastering are:
- Beacons,
- Corners,
- Plastering rule profiles,
- Various trowels,
- Long-handled brush,
- Plastic basin for preparing gypsum,
- Mixer.
Method for applying a single-coat gypsum plaster
First, metal protrusions from the wall or concrete are cut with an angle grinder. Substances that prevent the plaster from adhering to the surface (oil, dust, etc.) are cleaned with a brush. The wall is wetted to remove dryness. To eliminate dust, we apply a binder to the wall. (“FABBINDER” can be used.) If the surface is smooth like concrete from a mold, there is no need to roughen it using old methods like hacking. You can use the “FABKONTAKT” product, which creates a two-way contact between the surface and the plaster. “FABKONTAKT” should be applied to the surface at least 24 hours before plastering.
Large holes in the wall are filled in advance. Main beacons are placed according to the wall's unevenness. Beacon profiles can be placed at intervals of 60 cm to 2 m. The smaller the distance, the easier it is to work. After the main beacon profiles are placed, their straightness is checked with a spirit level.
To prevent corners from breaking in hot weather and to ensure they are straight and precise, special corner profiles should be installed. (HILL FAN PVC corner profile can be used.) Plastic "plaster mesh" (plastering net) is applied to areas where different materials meet and may be subject to movement. If there are exposed metal surfaces on the wall, an anti-rust coating must be applied to these surfaces before applying the single-coat plaster. We apply the prepared single-coat (BEYAZ ALÇI TEK ASTAR can be used) plaster to the wall with a plastic trowel. We pull the plaster with a plastering rule between two beacon profiles, from bottom to top. After the plaster hardens, we remove the main beacon profile and fill its place.
24 hours after the single-coat plastering stage is completed, if needed, a primer (BEYAZ ALÇI ASTAR) mixture should be used. Approximately 24 hours after the previous stage, a finish coat (BEYAZ ALÇI ÜZLÜK) is prepared and applied to the surface. The finish coat mixture is applied to the surface in a thickness of 0.5 – 1.0 mm to achieve a flawless surface. Finally, the walls are boundered (FAB BINDER) and prepared for paint or wallpaper.
